Ghostbuster 2016
Jul. 30th, 2016 12:32 amI had read so much negative about this movie and to begin with I can't say I thought I'd enjoy it much. I have to admit that I mostly enjoy movies starring either good looking young guys to drool over or tough women to identify with. (Wishful thinking!) Of course there really was a tough woman to aspire to be like (Patty Tolan). She works in the subway where she gets to see something creepy. That's why she contacts the 'Ghostbusters'. Unfortunately, I'm a bit more like Erin Gilbert, who is a bit of a science nerd. Erin has to go see her old high school friend, Abby, about a book they wrote and that is ruining her academic reputation. She finds that Abby has a new friend and the two of them are involved in some sort of paranormal research. They end up being kicked out of the university and together the three women start a business dealing with supernatural phenomena.
In the movie, apparently, they're pretending the first two Ghostbuster movies never happened, which is a bit weird. The old Ghostbusters actors (except for Harold Raimis) made cameo appearances, which was fun. I actually watched both movies only a few weeks ago, so I can really make a comparison. When I saw them the first time, I guess I was too young to spot the sexist dumb jokes and they jarred a bit this time. That's true of some other older movies that I recently re-watched. Sigh.
My verdict: this movie was fun. It may not be the best movie I've ever seen or even a favorite, but it was definitely ok. I would just have liked to see some more guys in the same position as their hot, dumb receptionist, Kevin. (Sorry. Don't crucify me.)
